This piece of spalted pecan came real close to being firewood (or pens). Very punky. Kept on going anyway and this is what it turned into. 11" x 2.5" tall. My main objective was to make the sloping bowl bottom look like it was coming straight through the top. Finished with Tung Oil and buffed.

Don Leydens, like many other wood turners, fell in love with the lathe in high school shop class. But it took many years and a bout with cancer to get him back into turning. Looking for something creative to do while undergoing chemo Don decided wood turning was just what he needed. Don purchased the lathe he turns on today and started turning again. His love of the craft was rekindled and helped him through his recovery at the same time. Don is cancer free and loving every minute he has at the lathe. He is thankful for all the friends he has met through of wood turning and the various forums on the internet. He is a member of Woodturner's Guild of North Carolina, the Chapel Hill Woodturners and the American Association of Woodturners. Don does demonstrations for regional turning clubs and has written several articles for Woodturning magazines.
